Crazy Dog Lady

It’s official. If there was any lingering doubt at all, this trip to Colorado has sealed it.

I am a dog person.

Of course, I knew I loved my own dogs. I knew I loved them and held them and squeezed them and called them George a little more than the other members of my family do. But being away from my dogs this week, I have found myself stopping and staring at other dogs here in Vail—and there are so many dogs here in Vail—to the point that I have made my family late for dinner. Yesterday I saw two Golden Retrievers, a Boston Terrier, a mutt, a German Shepherd, a St. Bernard, and (help) a big, beautiful Lab. And I’m not exaggerating—I had to stop and address each and every dog, give each dog a little pat on the head, and, in one particular case (and I won’t specify which dog in order to protect its privacy), get a lick on my nose.

On a recent trip to New York City, I exhibited this same troubling behavior. I could hardly walk by a dog on the sidewalk without getting all up in its business.

I have become a crazy dog lady.

Oh, I’ve always loved dogs. But it’s only recently that I have started loving dogs to the point that I can’t resist interacting with them when I see them in public. I hope the owners don’t mind, because evidently, it isn’t something I’m able to control. I hope it doesn’t get me into trouble someday.

So I’m in Vail. I miss my dogs. It’s profound. It aches. So what do I see when I transfer the contents of my camera’s memory card to my computer this morning?

DSC_8727This did not help my cause one bit.

DSC_8728Don’t worry, puppies! I’ll be home soon!

(Something tells me they aren’t all that concerned.)

DSC_8854Vail dogs smell a lot better than ranch dogs.

happycharlieAlso, I haven’t seen a single Basset Hound in Vail. Do they exist in Colorado? I would think the crisp, light air would be attractive to them.

(Maybe they’ve all been busy hiking up the mountain and I just haven’t seen them yet.)

(On second thought…maybe not.)

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Love,

The Crazy Dog Lady
